Having a crown or bridge placed

To help you heal, we recommend following the steps described below. Please note that it is perfectly normal to feel some discomfort after the procedure and to have some swelling in the lower face.

Bridges and crowns are placed over two appointments. At the first visit, we take impressions of the teeth to be replaced. We then place temporary crowns or bridges to protect your teeth until the replacement teeth are ready.

Day of the treatment

  • Take the prescribed medication as needed.

Avoid

  • Hot drinks while you are still under anesthesia.
  • Sticky or hard foods (chewing gum, candy).

Eating

  • Chew on the opposite side.

From the next day until you have fully healed

  • Brush normally, and floss carefully so you don’t dislodge the temporary crown.

If you lose your temporary crown, please come to the clinic right away so we can put it back. If you wait too long, placing the new crown may be more difficult and the other teeth may start shifting into the empty space.

If you have pain or any questions, please call us at 418 875-0888.
