Dental implants

Placed in the jawbone, a dental implant acts as a root to replace a missing tooth. To prevent rejection or infection, it is made of a biocompatible material: titanium. Once the implant has integrated with the bone, the professional attaches the replacement tooth (crown). This gives you a permanent dental restoration, with the function and appearance of an entirely natural tooth.
Are dental implants right for me?
The two main criteria to consider are your overall health and the bone structure of your jaw. If the jawbone has shrunk over time, we will probably recommend a bone graft so that implants can be placed. We will need to do a complete oral exam to make sure this procedure is suitable in your case.
Benefits of dental implants:
- Bone mass is preserved
- Greater comfort
- Looks like a natural tooth
- Better speech and chewing
- Easier dental hygiene than with a denture
In short, implants are a very good option if you have one or more missing teeth you would like to replace permanently. If you are considering them, ask Drs Bossé and Marois. They can tell you whether this solution suits your situation.
