Dental sealants

Dental sealant is used to fill the natural grooves on the chewing surface of molars and premolars to protect them from decay. These surfaces, which work hard during chewing, often have natural grooves where plaque builds up. If the plaque is not removed in time, it can cause a cavity.
The catch is that these grooves are usually so narrow that toothbrush bristles cannot remove all the food particles after a meal. To solve this, the dental professional applies a sealant, which smooths the chewing surface and keeps fine particles from getting into the tooth.
Dental sealants are strongly recommended for children aged 6 to 14, especially when their molars/premolars have deep grooves. However, adults who are more prone to cavities can also benefit from them.
