Space maintainer

A space maintainer is usually prescribed for children who lose their teeth early, to keep the space needed so the permanent teeth can grow in properly. This type of appliance, fixed or removable, is made by the dental professional from impressions of the patient’s mouth. Without treatment, the permanent teeth may come in out of position, increasing the risk of more complex orthodontic treatment later on.
